Leatherback Brewing Company proudly produces authentic Virgin Islands craft beer with uniquely Caribbean grown ingredients and influences alongside traditional beer styles. In 1760, a sugar mill began crushing cane at the current site of the Cruzan Rum distillery on the island of St. Croix. Since the early 1800’s, the Nelthropp Family (a.k.a. Cruzan Rum Royalty) has called St. Croix home, becoming an integral part of the island’s history. And for the last two hundred years, the island has not only left its mark on them, but also on their rum. The unique spirit of St. Croix echoes in every bottle of Cruzan® Rum – from the Nelthropp family, who have crafted rum on the island for generations, to the warm, tropical breezes that circulate through the open-air warehouses of the distillery. Even the name reflects the people of St. Croix, called Crucians. Award-winning chef Todd Manley has a passion for the finest, most authentic ingredients. The chef-owner of popular Christiansted restaurants such as Toast, 40 Strand and others believes success begins with ingredients. So when looking for a way to give back to his adopted home of St. Croix, he looked for an ingredient. And he found breadfruit, an ingredient true to the island and with a rich heritage behind it, and began his fascination with its richness, history and versatility.
